| Abstract | Continuous wound catheters have been shown to improve analgesia, reduce opioid use and side effects, increase patient satisfaction and reduce hospital stay in a recent quantitative and qualitative systematic review of 51 RCTs1. We have been using “Pain Pump® 2”, a continuous local anaesthetic wound infiltration device (Stryker®, USA), in our patients undergoing Total Hip Replacements (THR) for postoperative analgesia for the last one year. This retrospective audit was designed to compare the opioid consumption, antiemetic intervention, mobilisation and duration of hospital stay in patients using continuous wound infiltration catheters with historical control. |
